LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCT

The topic of this research is to uncover an approach in landscape design capable of integrating topological and formal features in the process of shaping the environment. The approach proposes a new method of design investigation, design development and design evaluation that draws from point cloud models produced with the technique of laser-scanning. Point cloud models provide an accurate geometry of the landscape which enables the crafting of a digital 3D environment as part of the design process. A specific manipulation of point cloud models paired with a specific procedure for landscape design allows to develop design proposals with a stronger connection to the site and its context.

The research is developed as a dissertation, "Shaping physical landscape: exploring point cloud modeling as a site-specific design approach in landscape architecture", within the chair of Landscape Architecture of Prof. Christophe Girot in Zurich and conducted at the Future Cities Laboratory in Singapore.
